7/12/09 - EMAIL

9:55 p.m. on Sunday Night
TO: FAMILY, TYLER, GRAY, VANESSA, OLIVIA, MARTIN

martin and i just decided today that my classroom theme (yes, to decorate, and inform all of my instruction and be cutesy) and it's going to be-
'SECOND GRADE IS PICNIC PERFECT" with tons of cute ideas:
it's inspired by the dick and jane quilt laura made me last year for graduation (!!!!) and all of the primary colors going on in my classroom. there is tons of red going on.

We are going to do gingham curtains on the windows with wooden flower boxes that have fake tulips inside of the room on the windowsils, put a picket fence around the walls, hang the art and student work on the clothesline, i am BUYING AN ANT FARM, getting a plaid blanket, putting a red wagon in the library FULL of books, filling a old cookie jar (do you see martin's 50's obsession as the inspiration for EVERYTHING) with marbles as the kids get and give compliments for class parties/rewards, and putting pencils and pens in cracker tins, etc. The bulletin board in the room (the only one really) would say "SECOND GRADE IS PICNIC PERFECT" with ants and bees and flowers all over it, a picnic basket STICKING out of the wall full of books, school supplies and all their names on napkins, plates and forks. I think we also talked about collecting old buttons as counters or filling up the jar with them instead of marbles if need be, and me trying to find an ant stamp for notes sent home, (like gingham red paper that says "from the desk of ms. casanova" (gray - did you go by MISS crabtree or MS?) with an ant above or below my signature when i write notes).

The FIRST DAY we are playing the "going on a picnic game" where you bring something that starts with your name as an ice breaker.
ok can you tell we're pumped and have been talking about this for the last few hours. HAHA.

and i want to start a blog about all of this decor going on - and i just did - kind of like the blog i had to use during student teaching?

um thanks for reading this RAMBLY email and being excited for my spaz-tastic life slash first year of teaching!
